EU Import Customs Clerk
Overview
The EU Import Customs Clerk is responsible for the accurate and compliant clearance of goods into the UK from the EU. This is a purely customs-focused role, concentrating on import declarations, regulatory compliance, and liaison with government authorities. The role ensures timely customs clearance, adherence to HMRC and Border Force requirements, and guidance to internal teams and clients on EU import regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Customs Declarations & Systems

Prepares and submits EU import customs declarations via CDS, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations.

Completes and manages IPAFFS submissions for relevant controlled goods, including SPS, food, plant, and animal products.

Ensures correct use of commodity codes, customs procedure codes (CPCs), valuation methods, and origin rules.

Monitors declaration statuses, resolves rejections, and rectifies errors efficiently.
Compliance & Regulatory Control

Ensures full compliance with UK customs legislation, Border Target Operating Model (BTOM), and EU import controls.

Liaises with HMRC, Border Force, Port Health Authorities, and other government bodies as required.

Maintains accurate audit trails and supporting documentation for all customs entries.

Identifies and escalates compliance risks or discrepancies in import documentation.
Documentation & Client Support

Reviews and validates commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates, licences, and permits.

Advises internal stakeholders and clients on EU import requirements, documentation standards, and regulatory changes.

Supports post-entry activity, including amendments, cancellations, queries, and customs audits.
Process Improvement

Contributes to continuous improvement of customs processes and SOPs.

Keeps up to date with changes to CDS, IPAFFS, GVMS, and EU/UK border controls.
